3: Focus Group

1. What kind of colours do you like to see from a magazine? Light or dark? And give an example of a magazine

    L: Dark colours but certain bits that are different for example I like music magazines like Billboard.

   A:Dark colours to emphasise the magazine and what it is about.

   S: I like dark colours for the front cover and throughout the magazine.

 

2. What genre of magazine do you prefer? And give an example of an artist you like from that genre

    - Hip Hop

    - Pop

    - Rock n Roll

    - RnB

    - Other

     L: My favourite genre would have to be Pop and the artist I listen to most from that specific genre is Shawn Mendes.

      A: I prefer Pop for example Shawn Mendes but I also enjoy listening to rap which would be an artist such as Cardi B.

      S: The genre I like the most is Pop and I like to listen to artists such as Ariana Grande and Harry Styles.

 

3. What do you like to read about in music magazines? For example, Gossip, new songs/new albums, interviews etc.

    L: I like to read about interviews, songs that they will play at their tours, songs that they are coming out with, the meanings behind their songs and what inspired them to write them.  

    A: I rarely read music magazines but when I do I mostly read about my favourite artists tours, tour experiences/stories they have and new songs/albums that is coming out soon.

    S: I like to read about celeb interviews and spoilers into what their next album or song is coming out and what it's about.

 

4. Do prefer a front cover that is simple or one that has a lot of information and cover lines about inside articles?

     L: I prefer front covers that are simple however they do give information about what’s inside. For example most/all Billboard magazines have who they feature inside the magazine in the cover lines however focus mainly on the artist on the front cover, their name and a quote from an interview featured inside.

   A: I prefer magazine front covers that are simple because I don't like when they have a lot to read on the front cover and it looks all crammed. I would just want it to be simple however give me the information I would want.

   S: I prefer a simple but enticing front cover such as Fader or Billboard.

 

5.  As a girl, would you rather read music magazines with male artists or female artists and which gender on the front cover?

     L: I would prefer to read music magazines that have an equal amount of male and females featured on the cover page and inside due to women becoming higher in the music industry, whereas it used to be male dominated. For example artists like Ariana Grande and Little Mix.  

    A: I want an equal balance between featured genders, so not all male and not all female, as that would annoy me because of how we live today isn't patriarchal like it used to be. I don't care what gender they are I just want to see artists that are doing well in their career and the most trending for example Cardi B.

    S: I wouldn't mind what gender is on the cover or featured inside, what would normally interest me would be the actual celebrity and whether I like them or not. Gender doesn't really play a big role for me as I wish to believe that in the music industry all genders are seen equally. However as a girl I prefer boys on the front cover as I listen to more male artists. I would love and definitely buy a magazine if it featured Harry Styles on the cover.
